Health Benefits Of Eating Oysters

Oysters are considered a delicacy in most corners of the world. Eating oysters also benefits the environment because they're a sustainable food source that leaves a small carbon footprint when compared to other protein food sources.  Best of all, they're absolutely delicious, no matter how they're served. Whether you prefer them raw, grilled, steamed, or fried, you can enjoy a number of health benefits from eating oysters. Let's look at how oysters can improve your health, along with some oyster dishes that we serve here at Rusty Pelican.

OYSTERS ARE PACKED WITH ESSENTIAL VITAMINS (AND MORE!)

Oysters may be delicious, but they're also packed with all kinds of vitamins, minerals, and organic compounds that fuel your body and brain. They're a great source of:

Copper

Iron

Niacin

Phosphorus

Protein

Riboflavin

Vitamin C

Vitamin D

Zinc

They're also an excellent source of antioxidants, which reduce inflammation and support overall health. Eating oysters offers so many health benefits it's not hard to convince yourself to eat them, even if they aren't so delicious.

THEY PROMOTE A HEALTHY HEART

Oysters are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is considered a "good fat." Because of this, oysters reduce the amount of plaque that accumulates in your blood vessels, effectively reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and promote overall cardiovascular health.

Rich in vitamin E, oysters also help to strengthen cellular membranes, which keeps your heart healthy and strong, and fends off cardiovascular disease. With so many health benefits, you can eat your fill of oysters guilt-free!

3 WAYS TO ENJOY OYSTERS

Oysters are delicious when raw but can also be grilled, steamed, and fried. You can enjoy them straight from the shell or incorporate them into a main course or appetizer by combining complex flavors into a mouthwatering dish. In fact, oysters are incredibly versatile. At Rusty Pelican, we serve oysters in several different ways.

1. GRILLED FURIKAKE OYSTERS

This starter dish is served on a platter with 1/2 dozen oysters and garlic chips. Tart-tangy ponzu relish is included on the side, with a fresh sprinkle of micro cilantro. Enjoy this appetizer alongside a cocktail at Happy Hour or as a starter course during a dinner date.

2. CHILLED SEASONAL OYSTERS

We serve fresh seasonal oysters at the Raw Bar at the Rusty Pelican. Pink Peppercorn oysters are served with a champagne mignonette. Our Blue Point oysters are fresh, crisp, and firm, with sweet, flavorful notes and a salty finish.

The Pink Moon oysters are delivered fresh from the east coast, with a creamy, citrusy flavor, and our Kusshi oysters are delivered fresh from the west coast. The flavor profile has a light salinity with a deliciously sweet watermelon finish.

Order your favorite seasonal oysters or mix and match them to share with a friend here at Rusty Pelican.

3. SEAFOOD TOWER

The Seafood Tower comes in two sizes in order to accommodate parties of two and four. Order this flavorful dish to enjoy three types of oysters, including Blue Point, Kusshi, and Pink Moon. The dish also includes poached shrimp, chilled cold water lobster, a crab salad, and fresh, citrusy ceviche. The Seafood Tower is topped off with an assortment of sashimi, nigiri, and a spicy tuna roll.
